A Nursery Full Of Roses

May 15th, 2008 HilaryTempleton Posted in Gardening No Comments »

Times have changed but roses have remained as one of the most favored among all known flowers across generations. Roses also get a position of pride in flower nurseries, simply due to the fact that they come in a wide range of colors and variety and make any nursery come alive with their presence. With the right kind of knowledge and application of techniques, you will be able to cultivate the best variety of healthy and colorful roses with ease.

Way To Grow Roses

You can either have potted roses or pick up bare root roses which can be re-planted in your garden easily. Potted rose plants are also more expensive because of the amount of effort that goes into developing a healthy potted plant. Gardeners Alan Titchmarsh and Christopher Freville recommend that root rose plants are easier to take care of as they settle in faster than the potted variety.

When to Plant

The preferable time for planting roses is believed to be from early spring to early fall .Bare root roses are usually planted before the new shoots begin to grow. Ideally they should be planted as soon as they are bought. However, if there is a time lapse in between, the suggested way of keeping them is in a cool, moist and dark place.

Let Them Catch The Sun

A nursery of roses should ideally be located where the plants are able to get enough sun for most part of the day. If the weather in the place tends to lean towards higher temperatures then some shade would be preferred so that the plants are not over exposed to the heat. Shady areas in woodland around Solihull may not contain enough sunlight.

Enough Air To Breathe In

Not many living things thrive in damp, dark places with no fresh air and roses are no exception. In fact if they are not exposed to enough air, they stand a chance of being attacked by fungus which is a natural inhabitant of places which do not enjoy free air circulation.

Place Them Right

Spacing also depends on the variety of the plant and its growth habits. Although traditionally the spacing is supposed to be 24 inches between neighboring plants it is also important to keep your roses as far away as possible from plants which as susceptible to fungal attacks. Adequate spacing that allows free air circulation helps plants to grow better.

Fitting them In

Soaking the roots in a bucket of water an hour before is recommended. The hole which has to be prepared before the rose is planted should be at least fifteen inches deep and eighteen inches wide with a generous helping of organic matter and fertilizer added in. A small mound is made in the center of the hold, the roots are spread over it and the hole is filled up.

Once the plant is fixed right, adequate watering is required along with pruning, weeding and regular conditioning of the soil. This will help your roses to grow strong, healthy and beautiful.

Container Herb Gardens - A Great Way To Grow Herbs

May 15th, 2008 KaiHendrics Posted in Gardening No Comments »

Herb gardens are so useful, versatile and easy to grow that they make an excellent addition to any home. Unfortunately not everyone has access to a spacious garden to grow their herbs in. This is where container herb gardens come in. They are great because you just need enough space for a few containers, and you can grow the most wonderful herb garden! What’s more, if you ever decide to move house, you can simply take your container herb garden with you!

So where do you start? Well, the first thing you need to do is consider what sort of herbs you would like to plant. To help you decide this, you might want to think about what sort of dishes you like to cook or what you will be using your herbs for. To give you some ideas, the following is a list of commonly used herbs in the kitchen:

Rosemary - Very fragrant and flavoursome herb that goes well with meat dishes. Can also be used to flavour oils.

Basil – Great with tomatoes and often used in pasta dishes. Also commonly used in Thai dishes.

Mint – Very aromatic herb. The leaves of this plant can be dried and used to make refreshing mint tea.

Chives – Especially good sprinkled raw over salads and over roasted potatoes.

After deciding what herbs you would like to plant, you want to go and get the following supplies:

• Container/s

• Potting Mix / Soil

• Seeds and/or herb seedlings

• Spade

• Watering can

• Fertilizer

If you are just starting out, you might want to use herb seedlings as they require less work than growing your herbs from seeds.

Once you have gathered all your supplies together, it’s time to start creating your container herb garden!

Fill your container with soil and add a little fertilizer to prime the soil and enhance the growing environment. (Note: If you have purchased liquid fertilizer then you can just add it to the watering water later on.). The amount of soil you put in depends on whether you use seeds or seedling to plant your herb garden. In general, if you are using seeds, fill your container to about 1 inch from the rim so that you will have room to cover your seeds with a little additional soil.

Always check the instructions on the seed packet as they will usually give you more detail on how best to plant your seeds. If you are using seedlings on the other hand, you want to cover the base of your container with only a few inches of soil so that you can fit the seedlings in. When you have arranged all your seedlings in the container you can fill the spaces around them with more soil.

As with seeds, you also want to follow the instructions that accompany your seedlings. If your seedlings to do come supplies with instructions, you can try looking up the information on the internet. These instructions are important for telling you the best growing conditions for your herbs. You might need to move your containers around to give them access to sufficient sunlight to help them grow.

Finally when you are done, give your containers a good water! And of course do not forget to water your herb garden over the coming days.

Follow these step and it shouldn’t be long before you have beautiful and bountiful container herb gardens just brimming with delicious fresh herbs!

Rose Garden Tips

May 15th, 2008 LisaSousa Posted in Gardening No Comments »

A rose garden is an ideal getaway for you any time of the day. Relaxing in a well planned rose garden can help you to relieve the stresses of the day with its beauty. You can plant a beautiful and relaxing rose garden if you follow some easy steps in planning and in raising the rose bushes.

When you start to plan your rose garden, and begin planting the rose bushes, consider the color of the roses. If you plant roses of the same color next to each other, it will enhance the appearance of the rose garden. Too many varying colors mixed together will look like a random jumble of color, rather than a well thought out color scheme. So, plant roses of the same or similar colors next to each other, and then in another section of the garden, you can plant another color.

Roses love sunshine. You will want a full sun area to plant your roses, where you can be sure that they will receive at least six hours of sun every day. If the area that you’re planning for a rose garden is shaded, then you will need to reconsider. Making a sun map of your backyard will help you to find the areas that are in full sun. Simply go out into your yard early in the morning, around 6:00 AM. Note which areas are in the sun, and which areas are in the shade. Repeat this every hour throughout the day, noting where the sun and the shadows are. At the end of the day, take a look at your notes, and see what parts of your yard were in direct sunlight for 6 hours or more. These will be the places where you want to plant your roses.

You will also need to test your soil. You can find soil testers at your local garden shop. You’ll need to check the pH level of the soil. For a successful rose garden, you’ll want a pH level of between 5.5 and 6.6.

Water will be important when you plant a rose bush. Regular watering, about once a week, will help the rose bush to get established, and grow a healthy root system. The soil that you plant in needs to be well drained. Roses do need regular watering, but they will not do well if the soil is constantly moist. So, plant them in a well drained area.

You will need to dead head the roses as they grow. What this means is that you will need to pick off the flowers as they die off. This helps new flowers to bloom and thrive. You will also need to remove leaves that have black spots on them. This keeps disease from spreading to the rest of the plant. Taking care of this as soon as you see it will help to protect your plant from disease and insects.

Your rose bushes will need to be pruned in the spring. Any dead portions need to be trimmed off to allow new growth. While you’re pruning, pull up any weeds around the plant, so your rose bush will not be sharing water and nutrients with unwanted weeds.

Properly raised and cared for, your rose garden will provide you with beautiful, fragrant flowers, year after year.

Once you plant a garden, you’ll want to make your garden unique. Find out how to accent your garden, at Garden Style Decor.

Making And Eating Sunflower Seeds

May 14th, 2008 RyanJ Posted in Gardening No Comments »

The sunflower has been used since ancient times as a food source – carbon dating shows Native American use from as early as 2300BC! With its long and varied history – and scientifically proven worth in keeping people healthy, there are now many uses of these popular seeds.

Growing sunflower seed at home is a rewarding experience and the myriad of uses for the seeds will only enhance your kitchen. The sunflower is remarkably unfussy as to where it will grow so long as it has plenty of sun. Sunflowers are found in such diverse places ranging from the swamps of the Amazon to the Mojave Desert – showing how resilient and adaptable the sunflower is.

The sunflower should be planted after the last frost of the year, with the seeds being planted around an inch deep and approximately 6 inches apart. Once the sunflower seedlings pop out from the ground, you should place them around 1,5 feet apart from each other – dwarf varieties can be closer (around a foot). You should water frequently after planting until they start to sprout - after that period, watering once a week should be enough.

However, if you do not have the time/space to grow your own sunflowers, the seeds are available in most supermarkets. You can buy them roasted or fresh – though cultural preferences will dictate whether they are available shelled or not. In the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe – they are frequently sold in the shell, whereas in Western Europe and America they are favored out of shell.

Sunflower seeds are one of natures most nutritious foods, with protein, vitamin E and Iron all very tightly packed into that little shell. Gram for gram, sunflower seeds compare favorably in comparison to beef, while it has one of the largest concentrations of Vitamin E in the plant kingdom. Vitamin E is linked to reduced heart disease due to it being an anti-oxidant that cleanses the free radicals that cause heart disease.

Toasted sunflower seeds are slightly lower in nutrients than raw, also having more calories and fat content. However, the raw sunflower seeds are high in phosphorous – which could lead to a loss of calcium if taken too liberally. The highest nutritional content comes from sprouting sunflower seeds. It’s not hard to imagine why, due to the fact that the tiny sprout has enough food in it to grow into a 6-12 foot plant. A marked increase in all vitamins and in protein is noticed in the sprouts.

Sunflower seeds themselves can be used in a variety of recipes – from sauces to spreads – to add flavor and nutty goodness, but are most commonly found in breads and muesli. You will often find sunflower seeds on buns, in whole wheat loaves of bread and even in pastas. Despite the heavy emphasis on baked goods, there are a large collection of sunflower seed recipes around and make good use of the sunflower seed’s unique and special taste.

Adding the sunflower seed to your diet will make you healthier, and give a special taste your dishes – could you really afford not to have it on your table?

Getting Rid Of Mildew On Your Roses

May 13th, 2008 K.Finch Posted in Gardening No Comments »

Mildew is every gardener’s worst nightmare, especially those who have rose bushes. The most known and most common mildew that effects rose bushes is one known as sphaerotheca pannosa. This type of mildew is powdery. The mildew is usually a white or grey powder that is usually found on rose bush leaves, shoots, buds, and the petals. Once the mildew attacks the plant, it spreads very easily and a gardener will soon notice white patches on the rose bush. The fungus eventually sucks all of the nutrients and water from the leaves, which in turn kills the leaves. The leaves eventually shrivel up and fall off of the bush completely.

The common powdery mildew is not caused by free water on the rose bush’s leaves and other parts; instead the mildew lives and thrives on hot, arid weather. In fact, watering your rose bush in the afternoon will help rid of some of the powdery mildew because it will break up the spores that are released by the mildew during the daytime. If you can afford to purchase fungicides, they are also helpful in getting rid of mildew. However, the fungicide will only be effective if you apply it at the right time.

Another type of mildew that is common on rose bushes is the Peronospora sparsa fungus. This fungus causes downy mildew, which opposite of powdery mildew, lives in a moist and humid environment. The mildew is usually found under the leaves of the rose bush. If you think your rose bush has been infected with a downy mildew, look for red, purple, or brown spots on the leaves. This usually ends in the leaves turning yellow and then falling off of the bush.

Unfortunately, this type of mildew is not as easily controlled as powdery mildew. Fungicides have not proven to be helpful; however, routine rose bush pruning increases air circulation, which then reduces humidity surrounding the plant. Regular seasonal pruning is very important to the health of your rose bush.

If you cannot afford to purchase fungicides to get rid of mildew, or you just prefer not to use them, there are a few simple steps that you can follow to reduce the chance of your rose bush becoming infected.

1. Before you plant your rose bushes, be sure that they are all spaced. Hybrid teas should have at the least, 3 ft. distances and bigger bushes should be no closer than 4 ft. Keeping the plants farther away from each other allows them all to dry out quicker after you water them. Lingering water can cause and attract mildew, so spacing is important. Also be sure that your rose bush is receiving enough sunlight. Rose bushes that do not get enough sunlight will have thin leaves that can be easily taken over by mildew.

2. Prune until you can’t prune anymore! This is probably the easiest and most important. Prune whenever your bush needs it. That means year round, not just during the growing season. Pruning your rose bush prevents mildew from forming because the plant is able to receive enough air and sunlight that is spread evenly throughout the plant helps prevent mildew. Pruning a rose bush is very easy. During pruning season, prune your rose bush by cutting above the new buds. This ensures that the new growth will be pointed outward instead of inward. It is also important to take time to inspect your rose bush to keep an eye out for any forming mildew. If you spot any dead or infected parts of the bush, simply remove it and then throw it out in a sealed container so the mildew does not spread.

3. When you water your roses, water them carefully. To prevent the growth of mildew, water your plants at root level. This is most important when it is hot outside. Avoid getting water on the leaves, especially if you water your plants shortly before it is nighttime. If you do not water your rose bush at root level, the plant will become dehydrated, which is a trigger of mildew.

4. To save money and time, try this home remedy for rose bushes. Many gardeners, both old and new, use the stinging nettle. This spray is easy and quick to make. All you have to do is collect stinging nettle, put them in a sack, and crush the leaves. Then put the sack in water and let it sit in a warm environment for about a week or so. Then strain the water and dilute it with water. Use this liquid and spray it on your rose bushes every two weeks. It is sure to keep mildew away. If you do not have stinging nettle, you can make a similar spray with these simple directions:

You will need:

• 1 tbsp vegetable oil

• 1 gallon of water

• 1 tsp regular-flavored Listerine

• 1 tbsp liquid soap

• 1

Hybrid Tea Roses – Developing A Great Understanding

May 13th, 2008 K.Finch Posted in Gardening No Comments »

From Teas, Grandifloras, Hybrids, and Floribundas, you’ll find that there is a very vast world of roses, and there are so many different types, that even gardeners who are experienced may find it confusing. So, what are hybrid tea roses? Well, basically they are created by crossing the China Tea rose with a Hybrid Perpetual, which is a European rose.

Usually the roses that you see in windows of florist shops right before Valentines Day are hybrid tea roses. These are the images that most people have when they think of classic roses. They usually have rather large blooms, and for each stem, there is only one rose produced. These blooms unfold with large petals that look like velvet and come out in a variety of layers. They are often favorites of people who enjoy cutting long stemmed roses to display in their homes. Also, photographers love to photograph them as well, since there are many colors available and the petals look wonderful. Since they flower on a regular basis, usually hybrid tea roses are known as monthly roses or even ever blooming roses.

Back in the middle of the 19th century, the hybrid tea roses became very popular. In fact, they became the most popular rose to have in the rose garden. During the Victorian era there was a lot of experimentation done with these roses, using cross pollinization and it resulted in hybridized tea roses. The breeders during this time were working to bring perpetual flower roses together with a rose that looked beautiful and elegant, and they definitely achieved their goal when they started propagating hybrid tea roses. Putting the Hybrid Perpetual and Tea rose together was a great combination.

The first official hybrid tea rose was known as the “la France.” It was discovered to a Frenchman in 1867, known as Giullot. In fact, they actually think that his discovery of this rose was accidental. He was working to create a yellow rose that was large and bright, but accidentally came up with a rose that was silvery-pink that had bright pink tips. It was a very fragrant and large flower for the time. With the beautiful colors and the huge blooms, the La France was definitely the star of the era.

Through time, hybrid tea roses continued to become more and more popular. With their long stem, it was easy to see the blooms and easy to cut as well. People loved their beautiful, vivid colors and the unfurling buds were so elegant that many people found them so much more beautiful and dramatic than any other roses. Also, the blooms they produced were bigger and they produced more frequently as well, making them quite popular.

Today most of the time hybrid tea roses are grown for the purpose of using them for cut flowers. During the Victorian Era they were prominently used for landscaping, but today they are not so common in this way. However, you can add them to your garden if you want to. If you choose to plant a hybrid tea rose in your rose garden, here are some tips that will help you find the right rose for your garden.

-Tip #1 – Are you looking for a rose that smells wonderful? If so, then these hybrid tea roses may not be the right choice. You’ll find that usually they only have a very light scent.

-Tip #2 – If you are looking for a low maintenance rose, this is probably not the right choice. During the hot summer months, hybrid tea roses need to be watered frequently. If you don’t have time to water on a regular basis, then these roses may not be for you.

-Tip #3 – Looking for long stemmed huge blooms that you can cut and display? If so, then hybrid tea roses will be just the thing. However, if you are looking for roses for landscaping, you’ll probably want to go with climbing roses or perhaps Grandifloras.

-Tip #4 – If you don’t want to deal with many thorns, you’ll want to pick a different rose. You see, hybrid tea roses are known for their thorns. While there are a few thornless hybrid tea roses out there, they are often quite expensive and can be hard to find.

How To Prune Rose Bushes Properly

May 13th, 2008 K.Finch Posted in Gardening No Comments »

Once winter ends and the spring moves in, dedicated gardeners dig out their gardening tools and get ready for the new season full of roses. Many of these gardeners grab their shears and put on gloves and set out to their garden to prune their rose bushes. Pruning rose bushes allows for the new buds to bloom in spring. Since rose bushes go dormant, depending on where you live, you may be able to prune your rose pushes before spring. For example, if you live in a warmer climate, you can prune your rose bushes in the fall.

As any gardener should do, take the time to get to know your plants. Gardeners who are planning to prune their rose bushes should figure out what kind of roses they have. Every rose bush is different from the next. The main purpose of pruning a rose bush is to remove and reduce parts of the bush overall. These parts can be pruned off because they are unnecessary. Getting rid of these unneeded pieces will allow more air to flow to the bush as well as more sun distribution. Both of these factors will keep the plant healthy which leads to more beautiful blooms of roses.

New to pruning? No problem. Follow these five straightforward and simple steps and before you know it your rose bush will be pruned to perfection. No matter what kind of rose bush you have, these techniques are sure to work for every single type.

1. Before you begin to prune your rose bush, make sure you have a sharp and effective pair of hand shears. To begin, cut away the dead wood and remove any canes that are broken or damaged. If you are not sure as to what good and bad wood is, know that live wood is usually a greenish color and dead wood is usually black or a dark brown color. Living wood will be white inside. The importance of getting rid of dead canes is that it prevents any sort of disease or manifestation to spread to other parts of the plant. Pieces of wood that are thin should also be gotten rid of to promote the growth of healthier canes.

2. The next step is to prune. Make sure that all of your pruning cuts are made just above the buds, usually around

Jacobsen Greens King IV: Replacing Older Engines

May 10th, 2008 BenAnton Posted in Gardening No Comments »

Small engine vehicles have been revitalized and revamped over the last several years. Golf carts and hauling vehicles once innovative in the 1980s were still able to be improved upon in the areas of design, steering mechanism, vehicle weight and basic functionality. Mowers, however, have remained constant in their design and mechanics for quite some time. The single biggest area of improvement for golf course and large area mowers is in the engine. Recent small engine mechanics innovation has allowed designers to create more powerful, easier to maintain, and more efficient engines for these pieces of equipment. Though older model mowers may have quality engines that are still getting the job done, many landscapers or greens keepers may find that the engine does not provide the power or efficiency that a newer vehicle could. Buying a new mower in order to get the power of a modern small engine is not necessary if you consider repowering the vehicle instead.

What Is Repowering?

Repowering a small engine refers to installing a newer rebuilt engine into an existing vehicle in order to improve its performance and save on buying a brand new vehicle or motor. By repowering, a landscapers or golf course maintenance crew gets more than just swapping out an old engine for the same rebuilt model engine. Rather, a repower kit swaps out an old engine for a newer, better engine model built with the latest technology. Repowering results in a better small engine in a vehicle for the fraction of the price of buying a new one.

I Already Have A Quality Engine

If you are a smart consumer, you have already bought a large mower from a reputable brand that stands by its products. So, you may wonder why you would ever want to consider repowering. Consider the Jacobsen Greens King IV. Jacobsen has an incredible reputation for being a leading turf maintenance mowers and equipment manufacturer for over 100 years. The company‘s Greens King IV has been one of their best selling vehicles for over a quarter of a century. These mowers, however, will last longer and perform better if their engines are updated to newer models.

The need to innovate and improve performance is well understood by Jacobsen. The company’s newer model Greens King IV has a 16 or 18 horse power Briggs & Stratton Vanguard gas engines. Older models have a 14 or 16 horse power Kohler engines. Improving the engine is important to the long-term life of the mower and to achieve better performance. This is why so many are choosing to repower their landscaping mowers – to give their well-maintained older models more power and extend their life.

Jacobsen Greens King IV is a popular landscaping mower and hauling vehicle manufacturer. As such, there are a variety of repower kits available. There are Briggs & Stratton Vanguard small engines or Kohler small engine rebuild kits available, depending on what engine is currently installed in the GV IV. Diesel models are also great candidates for repower kits. Those landscapers with other mowers brands, something other than a Jacobsen, can easily find a repower kit compatible with their model too.

Where Do I Find A Repower Kit?

Small engine repower or rebuild kits are available from several certified dealers online. When looking for a kit, make sure the one you purchase comes with a warranty that you would expect from the original factory dealer. They are available. This will give you piece of mind and assurance that the quality of your machine will remain intact. After all, repowering a small engine is a step toward improving the value of your mower and extending its life.

Organic Garden - A Healthy Alternative

May 9th, 2008 KevinTreman Posted in Gardening No Comments »

Many people are ‘going green’ and what better way to do this than to start with your food. There has been an increase recently in organic garden projects and it not only helps the environment, it also helps your body because there are no chemicals used when you make an organic garden.

If you have a space for a garden, this is a good thing, you can compost and garden on the soil that is already there. Composting is where you recycle food scraps and other waste products into the soil so that it helps to feed the plants. Things you would normally throw away such as eggshells, leftovers like meat, potatoes, tomatoes, cheeses, anything that you would normally eat can be composted into the soil to help it become rich in nutrients and help to feed the new plants. Even old coffee grounds will help.

If you do not own a plot of land, you can make a planters box on the roof, your balcony, patio or just about anywhere you have a small area to keep plants in, an old bathtub is perfect for a garden and will yield a nice harvest in the fall. For soil, you use the composting you start in a box of the tub and it will continue to grow. You can purchase soil or go into the woods and find more soil to add to it before the composting is completed.

You can go to the garden center and purchase organic plants and seedlings or seeds to start your organic garden. Make sure the service person knows you are planting an organic garden so they don’t give you anything but organically grown plants or seeds.

Some people are concerned about weeds. You should not use a weed killer. The soil is covering itself up with weeds because Mother Nature does not like exposed soils. The weeds grow to keep the soil safe from erosion and other dangers. If you have exposed soil, cover it up with some mulch, this will keep the weeds away and help to keep soil erosion at bay as well.

People wonder about pests and what to do about them. There are several flowers that are natural pesticides for rabbits and other predators, such as marigolds, rabbits especially won’t cross these pretty little flowers. Do some research and you could find all kinds of natural pesticides and flowers that critters who like to feast in your garden will not want to tamper with.

In these days of food source scares, it’s better to know where your food came from and to know how it was grown, so growing it yourself is the best way to protect you and your family from unknown and unwanted diseases on your food. The food you grow organically is better for you and will taste better.

All around, if you plant an organic garden, you will be helping your body, your family and the environment. And it’s less work than fighting the lines at the grocery store or getting sick from the latest contaminated vegetables to cross the boarders.

Garden Furniture - Just The Right Touch For Outdoor Life

May 9th, 2008 HalLewis Posted in Gardening No Comments »

Garden furniture can complement any outdoor garden or patio setting where you have made flowers and or plant the focal point of the yard. Choosing the right set is crucial to making the backyard a haven for entertaining or simply relaxing after a long day at work or basking in the hot sun.

There are several types and styles of garden furniture to choose from for your backyard, depending on your budget restrictions, your preference in materials and how you would like to match the decor with the flowers and other items in your backyard. For example, if you have a fountain in your garden, you would probably want to go with garden furniture that was more light an airy rather than something heavy or bulky.

One of the most economical garden furniture is the wicker material. It is durable to a point and some of it is waterproof, you would have to check the label. If it is not waterproof, you would have to bring it in during rain storms. Wicker outdoor garden furniture can look very nice in a garden setting of flowers or a screened in porch were there are many hanging baskets of flowers and potted plants with vine type leaves. They come in benches, large wing-backed chairs, tables and even swings.

A very durable material is the metal or iron type that will stand up to all weather so there is no need to bring them in when the season is over or when it snows or rains. This metal garden furniture comes in mostly benches, chairs and tables. The tables can be small, like end tables or coffee tables or large like an umbrella table. And one thing about the metal material is that very intricate detail can be carved into them making them very ornate and beautiful. However, they are mostly black or gray in color.

Garden furniture made of a metal piping, usually aluminum comes in a variety of colors such as garden green or cream and usually have the large umbrella table, regular size chairs, unlike the large wicker ones, and can also have a swing or slider with padding or an awning to protect against the sun. This style seems to be the most popular and can be matched with most flower and garden decor.

Hand carved wooden garden furniture is another style that is available in selected areas because it is usually hand made and specially ordered. Your local garden center would be able to tell you where you can get in touch with someone who carves handmade wooden garden furniture. Some wood workers prefer a certain type of wood over others but you can probably find what you are looking for if you shop around a little.

In addition to the hand carved wooden garden furniture, there are those that are environmentally friendly and use actual trees and branches to put together a unique looking set of garden furniture without the nails and glue. These are usually larger pieces and also need to be specially ordered.
